home school ideas!

James is learning his ABC's right now, and while i don't want to push him, id like to foster this early desire to learn...
i was wondering what you homeschooling moms have as far as info on preschool, and later grades.
tips, tricks, and ideas! :)

James loves the computer!  but i cant just use fisher prices website... he gets bored...

i need ideas...
what and why you use the curriculum you do... where you can get it... are there samples?
computer options?
i also wouldn't mind knowing what the rules are for homeschooling... unfortunately we missed that session at the conference...

i am not starting him in school yet! :) i just want to be well prepared...

  1. Go on google & look up home school curriculums & request info/catolog.

I started researching when bud was about a year old.

Ive noticed a lot of people use Abeka..people who started with ACE switched over to something else once the math became more challenging.

There are so many options out there. I encourage you to not only talk to others but also get a hold of other curriulmn options-takes time.

I have a full box filled with curriculum options & wa state guidelines.

  2. The compulsory age here is 8 years old.

We have used Abeka, ACE and Saxon Math so far. We do not like the ACE Math and Science for High School, but that's our opinion. When Ricky was 4 I made my own phonics flashcards just to see how he would do. It didn't take very long and he was reading his own books! You don't have to spend alot of money in the younger years on their curriculum... it mostly cost your time.

At the same time, I had made a "counting poster" for Benjy (age 3) with the written number going down the left side and the corresponding "dots" next to them. I saved water bottles caps in a container and he would cover the dots with the right amount of caps. That's how he learned his number values.

I have found A LOT of little workbooks, wipe off boards, flash cards, flip charts, wall charts, teaching aids, teacher assignment/ record books, reproducibles, incentive charts and stickers, etc.. at THE DOLLAR TREE! Even though most of their stuff is geared towards preschool through elementary, they do have a few things for older grades. I like them... and they are inexpensive (bonus).

If you choose to make your own curriculum list (meaning mixing and matching to what works for your children and family), Mrs. Heinz introduced me to Rainbow Resource. I have a catalog if you want to look at it. Even the kids enjoyed looking through it at ALL the different things they have! It's AMAZING!!!

Hope this helps some. Hugs, Grace
